Wouldn't be my choice, but I'd have him all day long over yesteryears favourite Martinez.

are we ever likely to get a manager that has won trophies, in all honesty not really

Can't see them gambling on him, tbh.

Can we just clear up one or two things?
Allardyce has been a manager for well over 20 years. What has he won? His football is shit, not what most of us want to watch.
Why do some misguided people think he is the way ahead for our club?
Monk is most likely not the man for us, but he appears to be a decent football bloke who has a bright future ahead of him. He has a good temperament and plays the game in the right manner. Good luck to him.

Would be even better if we went for a manager who after a couple of years at West Ham will have experience of winning a trophy or two.

What's this bullshit about how cheap someone might be?

They currently pay the 13th highest salary for a manager in the whole of Europe.

Ha ha! Nice to know you read it Nick. I actually meant to delete the last 2 paras but they were off screen below where I should have finished... Apologies - should have had one last read.

Re: Allardyce to swallow Monk arrival
I quite like MONK, but he's at the right club. He was captain there, it's pretty much engrained in him. I don't see why he'd want to leave, and I'm not convinced it would work somewhere where he's not universally respected from day 1 like he was there.

Why do you keep repeating yourself?

Re: Allardyce to swallow Monk arrival
It's probably rubbish but the Star have the owners right. A cheaper option with a low buy-out clause does sum up our owners mentality. I see Gary Monk as someone you might interview and if he really impresses, to consider if all other options fail.

He reminds me of Glen Roeder a bit. That isn't good btw! He has a win %age same as SA so it doesn't strike me as an ambitious move by the owners if true - just a cheap one.

They have a problem though in that the likes of Benitez and Klopp are likely to turn their noses up at WH. So where do look to replace SA with someone better unless we go for someone like Eddie Howe with no experience or a Gary Monk with a little experience?

I'm not surprised if Gary Monk is considered but I think the story has the ring of Monk's agent slipping out a false story to get a much bigger contract package from Swansea's directors....

Unfortunately, Gary Monk makes SA look attractive again. I don't see SA as being capable of another level but neither do I see Gary Monk having the personal authority needed to succeed SA.

We need to push the boat out and show ambition to sign a top manager to be sure of progressing to a new level. I see Gary Monk as someone you might interview and if he really impresses to consider if all other options fail.

I don't think the owners would go for Howe. I reckon they'd want someone with more experience.

Nasty_Nick 9:52 Thu Apr 16
Re: Allardyce to swallow Monk arrival
Howe isn't a big name and would be accepted.

I don't know how I would feel to be honest. Young and plays the game in the right way but no real experience and never won a thing!

Re: Allardyce to swallow Monk arrival
I'd be disappointed if Allardyce was jettisoned for Monk. I'd want a bigger name as next manager, to be honest.
